up again, a decent chance for a few thunder showers with moderate to heavy rain in a few spots. we had overnight showers and mid-day clearing we heat things up enough to have rain again. you see the overnight amounts there but we're going to add to our rain totals during the afternoon and here locally from the denver area into the foothills we could see up to a quarter to half an inch of rain it could be much more active this afternoon than we're seeing around her this morning. it's pretty calm right now. >> you know, and it's fairly calm on our drive. one potentially minor issue down to the south. taking a look at i-25. you can see we actually have great speeds both directions. but i am hearing reports of a potential stall in the area along northbound i-25 which could be slowing some folks down. still a lot of green showing up on this map but

speaking of the drive in from the south side travel northbound i-25 to c 470 afternoon speed 67 miles per hour. that's going to take you 13 minutes this morning. out west along i-70 traveling between i-25 and 6th avenue speeds in the 60s and 11 to 12-minute drive there. that's a look at our web camera u.s. 36 north of boulder where we have fog and slick spots, another look at that coming up in just a few minutes. through it. that they're going to come out stronger than ever. >> our school is kind of -- it's a family. >> the legacy high school family is standing together this home coming week as they support their classmates and coaches injured in a bus crash on sunday. jessica they're using the hashtag legacy strong to show their support. >> that's right. if you go online and search that hashtag you can see for yourself just how much support is coming in

football players who were involved in this crash and the coaches as well. one reason this crash has been especially tough is because it's home coming week here at legacy with a big game on friday even with 18 members of the football team having been involved in this accident. today officials will determine whether or not that game will be played. they're trying to decide whether or not the team is both physically and mentally ready. for now of course though the focus of the school commu i family of the bus driver who was killed in this crash. and also on the 3 coaches that re remain in the hospital. while the 3 recover we're told that defensive coordinator will be the one to step in as the interim coach if they do decide to play on friday. of course both yesterday and today students are emotional as they continue to encourage everyone who was involved in this

a really hard time. >> i hope you get well soon, sir, and we're all praying for you here. >> we mentioned that hashtag legacy strong. you can continue to use that today and show your support for the school and those involved in the crash as well. by the way, yesterday chino hills the high school this team was playing before they headed back to the airport they even september their support through twitter. it was very encouraging to see, yeah, you know continue as well even on campus as administrators continue to make sure everyone is doing okay. >> i could imagine what they're going through up there. thank you much for that. the bus driver w died in sunday's crash was 42-year old. she unexpectedly drove the bus around for a second loop at the airport before running off a road and into a concrete barrier. we talked to her husband.

had with my wife. every moment, every second every day. we lost a -- a beautiful soul yesterday. >> she leaves behind a 19-year old son, 17-year old twins and a 14-year old son. she worked for the adams 12 school district for 4 years. her husband says the school liked her so much they would request her specifically for bus trips. she recently passed a physical to continue bus drivers are required to take a department of transportation physical every 2 years. school bus crashes are rare in this country. though we did look up some numbers from recent years. between 2005 and 2014, about 1,300 people were killed in school transportation accidents and crashes across the country. now, 1,300 is a big number but consider more than 26 million children ride on school buss each day.

not require seat belts on busses although the national safety council does support that idea. >> new this morning denver police found a body near the rocky mountain wildlife refuge. police respond today a calculate monday night. details are very limited this morning but as you can see from the video it was an active scene with a lot of police presence. we're working to get more information. denver could have next year especially downtown and the 16th street mall. the newest proposal sets aside more money for denver police. $16 million would put more than 48 officers on the street, 16 of those would serve on the mall. the budget also includes $5 million for more affordable housing. there is still a lot of work to do before the budget is final. members will hear from the public and have until

people in high lands ranch with really happy. it was ranked the 7th happiest mid-sized community in the country. san francisco compiled a list of the happiest places. it's based on population, unemployment rate, commute times, low cost of living, marriage rates, home ownership and poverty rates. the happiest community was with in missouri. i guess i'm really happy. >> good for you. we already knew that. we're well aware of that. clouds, fog over the area. temperatures will be hovering in the 50s right near 50 in fact, for most of the morning rush hour. we get mid-day clearing. it will be cool if you're walkid in the sun i think it will feel fairly comfortable. by 3 that's when

answers. since joining the protest he's been under a lot of criticism. he is showing -- he continued it at the 49ers game last night. since then we've seen other athletes take the same action. for him it's cost him 2 key sponsorships. he's also gotten threats and hateful message but s theate. >> i'm not here to spread hate i'm not here to respond to the hate. i'm here to spread love. i'm a likable guy, you know, i was once a fan favorite for a reason. >> he says he prayed about this and he at the time that the protest was the right thing to do. we will see if he posts anything about his meeting with the police chief later today.

speedo for his dancing shoes was not enough. hello. was not enough to get ryan lochy from trouble. last night on dancing with the stars 2 angry crowd members tried to attack him on stage after his performance. they were getting critiqued from the judges when this happened. security stopped the 2 men off camera and the show went to commercial. here's what didn't make it into the broadcast. you can see guards tackle the first guy the second guy. they were wearing shirts with his name crossed out on them. >> it's hard i'm getting over it though. it honestly feels like someone reached inside took out my heart and stepped on it. it was really hard but i turned to her and she looked at me and smiled and said you just danced in fronted of millions i was like oh my god you're right i did. so i'm going to keep moving forward and keep dancing.

today we continue to see cold air off to our north with snow in the western and north more the northwestern mountains of wyoming during the day. little where i is he. thunderstorms redevelop this aft showers we had overnight we're going to pick up a few pockets of moderate to heavy rain this afternoon from 3:30 to 6 or 6:30 and then tapering off after that time through sunset tonight. wind not a huge factoror today. generally out of the east though and that's going to keep temperatures lower than yesterday 60s and low 70s with 50s and 60s in the foothills. storm redevelop through the central part of colorado from south park down through the arkansas valley. we'll get a few thunderstorms here, and then the showers spread to the west along the colorado river late in the day. the best rain from here on the front range and then

here on 9 news mornings recognizing those who both serve an inspire us. today we're thinking police. denver police officer john atsit is one of them. he was hit by a car in december 2014. he was critically hurt. he has undergone more than a dozen surgeries and still has limit movement in his left arm because of nerve damage. he returned to work at the end of optimistic. >> it's been an incredibly long journey. there were ups and downs throughout the way that i wasn't sure this day would come and doctors told me this day may never come. so i just -- i'm blessed. i'm blessed. >> he is inspiring. and he did not stop there. he says he had amazing support during his
